Asserting the 12-day battle, dubbed by Trump as “THE 12 DAY WAR,” has come to an end, U.S. President Donald Trump has proclaimed a “complete and total” ceasefire between Israel and Iran. The announcement followed closely Iran’s missile assault on the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, home U.S. soldiers, in response to American airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
In a celebratory social media post, Trump honored both countries for their “Stamina, Courage, and Intelligence” in preventing a war he said could have “destroyed the whole Middle East.” Both Iran and Israel, nevertheless, have not verified the ceasefire agreement, and Israeli aircraft purportedly kept going not long following the declaration.
Continuous Fighting and Questions
Tehran reported explosions and activation of air defence systems, thereby questioning the validity and timeliness of the ceasefire.
Middle East expert Omar Rahman warned that important information was omitted from Trump’s speech and cautioned an Israeli attack directed at Iranian leadership could torpedo any ceasefire.
Having changed his positions before—claiming neutrality, threatening involvement, and subsequently authorizing U.S. strikes on Iran—Trump has been accused of “deception” and unreliable diplomacy.
Antecedent to the Clash
Israel started a surprise and big aerial attack on Iran on June 13, targeting nuclear and missile infrastructure. Iran claimed hundreds died and described the assault as a breach of international law.
Iran hit Israel back with a great missile bombardment that resulted in major damage inside the country.
Three Iranian nuclear sites were sanctioned by President Trump over the weekend for American airstrikes. Though Trump described the strike as “weak,” Iran fired missiles at Al Udeid Air Base in reply.
