Iran Launches Missile Barrage on Tel Aviv and Haifa, Escalating Fears of Wider Middle East War

In a spectacular intensification of hostilities that has horrified world leaders gathered at the G7 meeting in Canada, Iran launched a major missile assault on Israel targeting Tel Aviv, Haifa, and Petah Tikva, killing at least four people and hurting roughly 90 others.

Four civilians, all roughly 70 years old, died in central Israel after missiles hit homes.

In Haifa, where strikes allegedly set a power plant close the port on fire, dozens were hurt.

Iran asserted it launched over 100 missiles employing techniques designed to disrupt and debilitate Israel’s multi-tiered missile defence systems.

Israeli officials conceded casualties and damage but stressed that their defence systems are not faultless.

Response for Israeli Attacks Against Iran

Iran’s attack is in reaction to an Israeli surprise attack on Friday that killed Mohammad Kazemi, the head of intelligence for the Revolutionary Guards, and hurt several nuclear and military sites all throughout Iran.

Following the disaster:

With strikes on Iranian oil and gas installations, Israel persisted in its attack and set off big Tehran fires.

With 90% being civilians, the health ministry reports that Iranian deaths have apparently gone beyond 224.

Iran has rejected truce negotiations, telling Oman and Qatar it would not contemplate conversations under ongoing Israeli attack.

Reactions Worldwide

Leaders showed great worry at the G7 summit:

US President Donald Trump said he hoped for a deal but added, “Sometimes they have to fight it out.”

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz underlined the need to resist nuclear proliferation and keep space for diplomacy.

Meanwhile:

Reportedly, the US assisted to intercept some Iranian rockets aimed at Israel.

Although two sources asserted he had just rejected an Israeli plan to kill Ayatollah Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Trump refuted direct US participation.

What is next?

Given that both parties maintain military operations and display little indication of retreat, regional conflict appears increasingly probable. As civilian casualties grow on both sides and global diplomacy stagnates, the world watches anxiously two of the Middle East’s most bitter enemies inch toward full-blown war.
