Ian Borg, Malta’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, received a prestigious invitation to attend Donald Trump’s inauguration as one of only eight world government officials selected for this honor. This exclusive invitation underscores Borg’s significant influence and reputation on the global stage.

Notably, other prominent leaders, including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, UK Labour Party leader Keir Starmer, and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, did not receive invitations. However, Borg and Javier Milei, an Argentine politician, were among the select few who made the cut.

Borg’s attendance at the inauguration highlights the strong diplomatic ties between Malta and the United States. As a key player in Maltese politics, Borg has been instrumental in fostering relationships with international leaders and promoting Malta’s interests abroad. His meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in 2024 further demonstrates his commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.

The invitation to Trump’s inauguration serves as a testament to Borg’s stature as a respected and influential figure in global politics. His ability to navigate complex diplomatic landscapes and build relationships with leaders from diverse backgrounds has earned him recognition and admiration from his peers.
