Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler are headlining the field at the 2025 Texas Children’s Houston Open as they gear up for The Masters. With the first major of the year just around the corner, the PGA Tour is making a stop in Texas this week for what’s shaping up to be another thrilling tournament.
McIlroy and Scheffler aren’t the only big names in the mix—Wyndham Clark, Sahith Theegala, Tony Finau, Jason Day, and Min Woo Lee will all be teeing it up as well. Last year, Germany’s Stephan Jager took home the title, holding off a stacked leaderboard (including Scheffler) to win by a single stroke.

ToggleWhen and Where?
The Houston Open kicks off on Thursday, March 27, and runs through Sunday, March 30, at Memorial Park Municipal Golf Course in Houston. What’s cool about this course is that it’s actually a public one—you could play it yourself for just $30! It’s a par 70 and stretches 7,475 yards.
If you want to follow along, talkSPORT 2 will have live coverage all week. You can listen via their app, smart speaker, or good old AM radio (1089 or 1053). Sky Sports will also be broadcasting the event, with coverage starting at 12:30 PM UK time on Thursday.
Who’s Playing?
The field is stacked with 154 players, and after Friday’s cut, only the top performers will advance to the weekend. Along with McIlroy and Scheffler, you’ve got Clark, Maverick McNealy, Theegala, Sungjae Im, Aaron Rai, and JJ Spaun in the lineup.
The full field list and tee times for the opening rounds haven’t been announced yet, but once play starts, you can track the latest scores on the leaderboard.
What’s at Stake?
The total prize purse for the tournament is $9.5 million, with the winner taking home $1.7 million.
McIlroy’s Take
Fresh off his Players Championship win earlier this month—where he took down Spaun in a Monday playoff—McIlroy is looking to stay sharp before The Masters. He’s been open about wanting to get in one more tournament before Augusta, saying, “Three weeks off feels like too much. I’ll probably play either Houston or San Antonio.”
Turns out, he landed on Houston, and fun fact—this will actually be his first time playing the Houston Open. After this, he’ll take a short break before heading to Augusta, where he’ll try (once again) to complete his career Grand Slam with a Green Jacket.
So, plenty of storylines to follow this week. Will McIlroy carry his momentum into Augusta? Can Scheffler bounce back after just missing out last year? And who will take home the title in Houston? We’ll find out soon enough.
