French police have arrested five new suspects in connection with the daring jewellery heist at the Louvre museum, which occurred on October 19, 2025. The Paris prosecutor, Laure Beccuau, announced the arrests, stating that one of the suspects is believed to be part of the four-man team that carried out the heist. The stolen jewels, valued at approximately $102 million, have not been recovered yet.
The arrests were made in coordinated raids in the Paris region, particularly in Seine-Saint-Denis, a region just outside the French capital. Beccuau mentioned that the main suspect was identified through DNA traces left at the crime scene. Two suspects arrested earlier had “partially admitted” their involvement in the heist under interrogation.
The investigation is ongoing, with detectives analyzing encrypted messages from phones and other objects found on the suspects. Beccuau did not rule out the possibility of a larger group involved in the heist, potentially including someone who orchestrated the theft.
The Louvre heist has raised concerns about security lapses at the world’s most-visited museum. The museum’s director has acknowledged failures in security operations and offered to resign, but the culture minister rejected the resignation.
