After an overnight Russian missile and drone assault targeting Kyiv and surrounding areas, at least seven people have died and over two dozen have been injured, Ukrainian authorities said on Monday.
Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said the strikes destroyed sports facilities, hospitals, and residential structures.
According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, six people died in a high-rise building in the city; 22 more were hurt.
Another person was killed when a drone hit a hospital in Bila Tserkva, southwest of Kyiv.
According to the Ukrainian air force, the attack targeted mostly the Kyiv area and involved 16 missiles and 352 drones.
Rising Danger to Air Defenses
Russia has boosted its use of mass drone and missile waves, so overpowering Ukrainian air defenses and pushing hundreds of innocent people into bomb shelters. A video released by emergency personnel in Ukraine shows startled citizens fleeing burning buildings.
Updates of Military and Diplomatic Affairs
President Volodymyr Zelensky is going to London to meet with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer to discuss military assistance.
On Tuesday, he will also attend a NATO summit supper in the Netherlands.
Saying, “We will not just sit in defense… we still retreat, lose people and territories,” Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrsky vowed to increase Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory.
This most recent attack comes less than seven days after a different Russian missile assault on Kyiv killed 28 people and wounded almost 100—one of the most deadly attacks on the capital since the war started in February 2022.
Peace negotiations are yet stuck.
Diplomatic efforts stay paralyzed. Almost three weeks ago, the most recent Russia-Ukraine discussions resulted in just limited prisoner and body exchanges. No fresh meetings have been fixed.
Following Trump’s early departure to address the conflict between Israel and Iran, Zelensky’s scheduled meeting with US President Donald Trump at the recent G7 summit was cancelled.
