Budget 2025 brings welcome news for Maltese workers, with a wage increase of €5.24 per week. This boost aims to improve the standard of living, acknowledging the rising cost of living and the importance of fair compensation. The majority of employees, including those in the private and public sectors, will benefit from this increase, ensuring they share in the country’s economic growth.
Additionally, approximately 100,000 families will receive an extra Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) payment. This supplementary payment aims to cushion the impact of inflation, providing relief to vulnerable households and ensuring families can afford essential necessities.
These enhancements will contribute to enhanced purchasing power, improved living standards, and reduced financial stress. By supporting low- and middle-income families, the government promotes social mobility, reduces income inequality, and fosters a more inclusive society.
Budget 2025’s wage and COLA increases demonstrate the government’s commitment to social fairness and economic prudence. As these measures take effect, their benefits will resonate across various sectors, underpinning the government’s vision for a more prosperous, equitable, and resilient Malta. The wage increase and additional COLA payment empower the country’s most valuable resource – its people.
