Many additional Palestinians, including children, have died from starvation in Gaza, while Israeli airstrikes killed at least 46 people across the enclave, including six civilians looking for help. Since March, the Civil Defence of Gaza has stated that at least 2,500 wounded Palestinians have passed away as Israel keeps blocking most rescue operations.
Far short of the 9,000 claimed, only 1,334 aid trucks entered Gaza over the past 15 days, according to the Government Media Office.
Israel was strongly criticized for killing five Al Jazeera reporters and, then apparently accusing one of being a Hamas member. .The United Nations has requested an autonomous inquiry. Law professor Wadie Said pointed out the 2022 murder of journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, protected under international law, as evidence of a bigger pattern of impunity, saying that the targeting of media members is “no longer being hidden.”
Global response rose on different levels. Following an ethical review, Norway’s $2 trillion sovereign wealth fund indicated it will sever relations with managers of its Israeli investments. For conditions for acknowledging Palestinian statehood, Australia declared it had gotten “detailed and significant commitments” from the Palestinian Authority, while New Zealand signaled it might follow soon.
Urgent world action to halt what the Gaza Municipality, the Chambers of Commerce, and the Coordinating Council of Private Sector Institutions called Israel’s “systematic plan of destruction” against Gaza was requested in a joint statement. As part of a strategy to “seize and destroy Gaza City,” they accused Israel of collective punishment, cultural erasure, and premeditated destruction of northern regions, Rafah, and Khan Younis.
The statement urged all countries, the International Court of Justice, and the United Nations to act “urgently and decisively” to stop the war, open all borders, and restore humanitarian help. Global media were urged to increase their coverage so that this “dark chapter” would not be met with silence.
“Enough killing and bloodshed; enough destruction and ruin,” it went. “We deserve life; we yearn for it.”
