President Donald Trump has signed an executive order creating a task force to get ready for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, the first Olympics held in the U.S. since the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City.

Trump said the task force would guarantee the LA28 Games were “safe, smooth, and historically successful.” Information on the executive order was not quickly made public.

At the announcement, Trump complimented Gene Sykes, chair of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee, for the organization’s policy excluding transgender women from women’s events, saying, “The United States will not let guys steal trophies from women at the 2028 Olympics.”

According to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, Trump regards overseeing LA28 as a “great honor” and claims sport is among his “greatest passions.” A key stage in the preparation of the event, LA28 Chair Casey Wasserman welcomed the task force.

The State Department states that the task force would coordinate federal, state, and local agencies to simplify visa procedures, strengthen security, and oversee transportation. Important figures include Vice President JD Vance, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

Expressing delight for the 2026 FIFA World Cup co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, Trump also added excitement. To discuss security preparedness for the competition, the three administrations had their first trilateral coordinating session Tuesday.
