Germany coach Julian Nagelsm expressed doubts about Marc-Andre Ter Stegen’s participation in the upcoming World Cup, citing the goalkeeper’s prolonged absence from the game due to injury. Ter Stegen, who is currently on loan at Girona from Barcelona, underwent surgery on a torn hamstring in February, adding to his injury woes. Nagelsmann stated that the chances of Ter Stegen making the World Cup squad are “very, very, very slim” considering his overall situation.
The coach emphasized that Ter Stegen needs to focus on his rehabilitation and regain his form, acknowledging that he’s not getting any younger. Nagelsmann had previously considered Ter Stegen as Germany’s leading goalkeeping candidate, but Oliver Baumann has been impressing with his performances, making it challenging for Ter Stegen to secure a spot.
