On the last day at The Oval, Mohammed Siraj bowled England out for 367 and secured a thrilling six-run victory in the fifth Test, so leveling the series 22.
With Joe Root (105) and Harry Brook (104) leading the charge, England appeared to be on track at 3013 chasing 374. Brook’s wild shot set off an incredible collapse, since England lost their final seven wickets for only 66 runs.
Earlier in the match, Siraj had dropped Brook; in a dramatic manner, he atoned. Before throwing a scorching yorker on Gus Atkinson to finish five wickets, he took the key wickets of Jamie Smith and Jamie Overton.
Still 17 runs short, injured Chris Woakes came out to bat with a dislocated shoulder, unable to grip the bat correctly. With a six off Siraj, Atkinson quickly raised English hopes and protected Woakes from the strike. But Siraj had the ultimate word, hitting Atkinson with another precise delivery to secure India’s smallest-ever Test victory.
