A recent survey conducted by the Football Supporters’ Association (FSA) has revealed that a staggering 76% of Premier League fans are in favor of abolishing the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system. The online poll, which gathered responses from nearly 8,000 supporters, highlights the widespread dissatisfaction with VAR, with 91.7% of respondents stating that it has removed the spontaneous joy of goal celebrations. The survey also found that 97% of fans believe VAR has made football less enjoyable, while 90% disagree that it has improved the matchday experience.
The FSA has shared the survey results with the Premier League and the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), and is calling for discussions on the findings. However, the Premier League has disputed the FSA’s findings, stating that their research indicates fans are largely in favor of keeping VAR, but improving its implementation. Despite this, the survey’s results suggest that fans are increasingly frustrated with the technology, and are calling for its removal.
