Barcelona President Joan Laporta has ruled out the possibility of Lionel Messi returning to the club, calling it “unrealistic”. This statement comes after Messi’s surprise visit to the newly renovated Camp Nou, where he expressed his desire to return one day. Laporta emphasized that he’s not speculating on something that’s unlikely to happen, citing respect for Messi, the club staff, and members.

Messi, who left Barcelona in 2021 due to financial constraints, is now playing for Inter Miami. Laporta mentioned that the club would love to give Messi a grand tribute at the Camp Nou once renovations are complete, with a capacity of 105,000 fans. “It’s only fair that he should have the best tribute in the world,” Laporta said.

Despite his departure, Messi remains Barcelona’s all-time leading scorer with 672 goals in 778 appearances. Laporta has no regrets about Messi’s exit, prioritizing the club’s interests, saying “Barca is above everything”.
