Manchester United’s sporting director Jason Wilcox believes the team is heading in the “right direction” under manager Ruben Amorim, despite the inevitable “bumps in the road” that come with rebuilding a squad. Wilcox emphasized the importance of staying calm and focused on their clear plan, ignoring outside noise and criticism.

United has made significant progress under Amorim, winning three consecutive Premier League games for the first time in his year-long reign, propelling them to sixth place in the table. Wilcox attributes this success to strategic investments in the squad, including the £200 million spent on new forwards Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko.

However, Wilcox acknowledges that challenges lie ahead, particularly with key players like Mbeumo and Amad Diallo potentially missing games due to international commitments. Amorim echoed this sentiment, stating that the team will “struggle a bit” but is preparing for the challenge.

Wilcox’s vision for United’s future involves investing in talented players who can handle pressure and drive the squad forward. He prioritizes signing players with the right character and potential, rather than just elite talent. This approach aligns with Jim Ratcliffe’s goal of finding and developing young stars rather than buying established ones.

As United continues to rebuild, Wilcox’s leadership and Amorim’s tactical approach will be crucial in determining their success. With a clear plan and focus on youth development, United aims to return to competing for top honors in the Premier League and Champions League.
