Napoli midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has undergone successful surgery on a hamstring injury he suffered during their 3-1 win over Inter Milan. The Belgian international sustained the injury while scoring the opening goal from the penalty spot and was immediately helped off the pitch clutching the back of his right thigh.

The surgery, performed in Antwerp, was a complete success, and De Bruyne will begin the first phase of his post-surgical rehabilitation in Belgium. Napoli’s sports coordinator, Gabriele Oriali, expects De Bruyne to be out of action for three to four months, ruling him out for the rest of 2025.

This latest injury is not in the same location as his previous hamstring issues, which could slightly reduce the overall recovery timeline. De Bruyne has a history of hamstring problems and to undergo surgery in 2023 when he was with Manchester City.

Napoli’s medical staff, together with head coach Antonio Conte and De Bruyne himself, agreed on surgery after initial conservative treatment options were ruled out. De Bruyne’s absence will force Conte into an early tactical rethink, with the team currently leading Serie.
