Jannik Sinner has acknowledged that finishing the year as world number one is impossible for him. The Italian tennis star, currently ranked world number two, lost the top spot to Carlos Alcaraz after Alcaraz defeated him in the US Open final in September. Sinner had previously held the number one ranking for 65 consecutive weeks.
Sinner expressed his thoughts on the matter ahead of his opening match at the Paris Masters, stating, “It’s impossible to finish the year at number one. Honestly, I’m not thinking about this at the moment. It’s going to be a goal for next year.” He trails Alcaraz by less than 1,000 points in the ATP rankings, but Sinner’s path to overtaking Alcaraz has become more challenging after Alcaraz’s shock defeat by Cameron Norrie at the Paris Masters.
Despite this setback, Sinner remains focused on his performance and is looking forward to the upcoming tournaments. He recently won the Vienna Open and is preparing for the ATP Finals in Turin. Sinner has had a remarkable 2025 season, highlighted by his maiden Wimbledon crown and four Grand Slam finals.
