Eintracht Frankfurt has strengthened its squad with the signing of Japanese winger Ritsu Doan from Freiburg, with the player committing to a five-year contract until 2030. The transfer, reportedly worth €20 million (£17 million), marks a significant addition to Frankfurt’s attacking lineup. Doan, who has 57 caps for Japan and scored 10 goals, brings a wealth of experience and skill to the team.
During his time at Freiburg, Doan made 123 appearances, scoring 26 goals and providing 23 assists. His impressive performance last season, where he netted 10 times and added eight assists, helped Freiburg secure a fifth-place finish in the Bundesliga and qualify for the Europa League. Frankfurt’s sporting director, Markus Kroesche, expressed enthusiasm about Doan’s signing, highlighting his high quality and skill, which will help the team achieve its goals.
Doan’s arrival follows the departure of Hugo Ekitike to Liverpool and is seen as a major boost for Frankfurt as they prepare for the Champions League. With Doan’s speed, creativity, and experience, Frankfurt aims to make a significant impact in European competitions. The team will play their final pre-season friendly against Premier League side Fulham before opening their Bundesliga campaign against Werder Bremen on August 23.
