The Confederation of African Football (CAF) president, Patrice Motsepe, has stated that he will respect the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) decision regarding Senegal’s appeal against being stripped of its Africa Cup of Nations title. Motsepe emphasized that his personal opinion on the matter is irrelevant, highlighting the importance of adhering to the CAS ruling. The controversy surrounds the AFCON final between Senegal and Morocco, where Senegal initially won 1-0 but was later awarded a 3-0 loss due to players walking off the pitch in protest of a late penalty.

The CAF has announced plans to implement changes to its statutes and regulations to strengthen trust and confidence in African referees, VAR operators, and judicial bodies. Motsepe stressed that these reforms aim to prevent similar incidents in the future and promote fairness in African football.
