Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager, has encouraged Ethan Nwaneri to seize the opportunity to join Marseille on loan, saying the 18-year-old needs to “swim with sharks” to develop his skills. Nwaneri, who struggled for minutes at Arsenal this season, will join Marseille until the end of the season, where he’ll work with manager Roberto De Zerbi, known for nurturing young talent. Arteta believes this move will provide Nwaneri with the regular playing time he needs, citing William Saliba’s successful loan spell at Marseille as a prime example.
Arteta emphasized that Nwaneri’s development is a priority, but the talented young player needs game time to grow. “The talented young players that we have need minutes, and Ethan wasn’t getting enough minutes,” Arteta said. “The last thing we want to do is cut his development because he’s such a talent”.
