Alphonso Davies’ return to the pitch is set to make Bayern Munich even more formidable. The Canadian wing-back is expected to feature against Mainz on Sunday, having made a successful comeback from a nine-month ACL injury in Tuesday’s Champions League win over Sporting Lisbon. Davies’ blinding speed and attacking prowess will give coach Vincent Kompany more options, particularly on the left flank, where Bayern has had to improvise since his absence.
With Davies back, Bayern can play a higher defensive line, leveraging his speed to chase down counter-attacks. His return also boosts their attacking potential, as he regularly bombs forward and creates scoring opportunities. Joshua Kimmich praised Davies’ work ethic during rehab, saying, “The way he went through his rehab was exemplary and outstanding. He gives us a lot on and off the pitch”.
Jamal Musiala, another key player, is also on track to return in January, which will further strengthen Bayern’s squad. With Davies and Musiala back, Bayern will be even more challenging to face, especially in the Champions League.
