Mark Carney to Replace Trudeau as Canada’s Prime Minister

On March 9th (Sunday) Mark Carney won the election to lead Canada’s federal Liberal party and will now succeed Justin Trudeau as Canada’s next Prime Minister. Carney, 59, was the former governor of the Canadian central bank and Bank of England won the race against three rivals with 85.9 per cent of the vote.

In his victory speech Carney vows to win the trade war against the United States and also called out Donald Trump’s intention on making Canada the 51st state of USA

Responding to the questions about the tariffs imposed by America, he said –

“What Canada will be looking to do is to diversify our trading relationships with like-minded countries, and there are opportunities to rebuild the relationship with India.”

“Americans should make no mistake,” he said. “In trade, as in hockey, Canada will win.”

  • To begin with, Carney has suggested the removal of consumer carbon tax because it places the burden on the consumers rather than the polluters who are the actual culprits.

  • Next, he vows that there will be major investments on in housing and clean energy projects
