Xjenza Malta, the government agency responsible for promoting scientific research and technological innovation in Malta, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Malta Enterprise to strengthen collaboration and support economic development through enhanced research, development, and innovation initiatives. The MoU aims to create a cohesive and efficient innovation ecosystem in Malta, enabling researchers and businesses to bring ideas to market faster and with greater support.
The partnership will focus on aligning funding schemes to provide seamless support for research projects from initial development through to commercialization. This includes business planning, intellectual property support, and access to market opportunities. Both parties will also work together to analyze the local research ecosystem, coordinate outreach and marketing efforts, and evaluate the progress and impact of the collaboration.
According to George Gregory, CEO of Malta Enterprise, the partnership will accelerate innovation, unlock new opportunities for local talent, and reinforce Malta’s position as a thriving hub for research and enterprise. Silvio Scerri, CEO of Xjenza Malta, added that the partnership is a vital step toward building a more cohesive innovation ecosystem, enabling researchers and businesses to succeed.
The MoU has been welcomed by Keith Azzopardi Tanti, Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Research and Innovation, who emphasized the importance of collaboration between industry, government, and education institutions in nurturing talent and innovation. Silvio Schembri, Minister for the Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects, noted that the agreement simplifies processes and fosters greater synergy between national entities, ensuring that innovative ideas can be transformed into opportunities for the economy.
