Six people were hospitalised after a prison van and a truck collided on Ħal Far Road, in an accident that caused major disruption to traffic in the area.
Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after the crash, where both vehicles had sustained significant damage. Paramedics treated those involved on site before taking six people to hospital for further care. Authorities have not confirmed the severity of their injuries, but said all were receiving treatment.
The prison van was carrying inmates at the time of the collision, and officials said security protocols were followed to ensure everyone’s safety following the impact. Police closed part of Ħal Far Road to allow rescue crews to work and to carry out investigations into what caused the crash.
The incident led to heavy tailbacks as motorists were diverted, with traffic building up in both directions during the morning. Officers remained on scene to manage the flow of vehicles and to begin gathering evidence, including CCTV and witness accounts.
An investigation is now underway to establish the circumstances leading up to the collision. In the meantime, authorities have urged drivers to take extra care on the route as cleanup and recovery work continues.
