Roderick Galdes has resigned as Malta’s Minister for Social and Affordable Accommodation, amidst controversy surrounding the government’s affordable housing scheme. The scheme has faced criticism over governance, transparency, and potential conflicts of interest, with concerns raised about the evaluation process and the minister’s personal property dealings.
Galdes, who has been a Labour Party MP since 2004, had held the position since 2020 and was instrumental in launching several initiatives, including the Housing Development Fund and the Affordable Housing Foundation. His resignation comes after calls for his removal due to perceived lack of transparency and accountability in the affordable housing scheme.
