The Nationalist Party has put forward a proposal to develop a national hall and expo centre in Marsa, positioning the project as a strategic investment to strengthen Malta’s capacity to host large-scale international conferences, exhibitions, and cultural events. The PN argues that Malta currently lacks a purpose-built, state-of-the-art facility capable of competing with major European destinations for global summits, trade fairs, and high-profile conventions, and that a dedicated expo centre would address this infrastructure gap while generating significant economic returns.

Under the proposal, the Marsa venue would be designed to international standards with flexible hall spaces, modern exhibition areas, and ancillary facilities to accommodate events such as SiGMA, medical and technology conferences, and other quality gatherings that bring thousands of delegates to the island. The PN said the centre would serve as a national asset that cements Malta’s attractiveness for future events, creates new economic niches, and supports sectors including tourism, MICE, and the creative industries. The party emphasized that such a facility would enable Malta to bid for and retain flagship events that are currently constrained by the limitations of existing venues, while also providing a platform for local businesses, startups, and cultural initiatives to showcase their work.

The Marsa location was identified due to its central position, accessibility, and potential for regeneration, with the PN suggesting that the project would contribute to the wider revitalization of the area. The proposal forms part of the party’s broader economic vision to diversify Malta’s economy, attract foreign direct investment, and create skilled employment opportunities linked to event management, hospitality, logistics, and services. By investing in dedicated expo infrastructure, the PN contends Malta can compete more effectively with regional hubs, extend tourism beyond peak seasons, and present itself as a centre of excellence for international meetings and exhibitions.
