A 43-year-old television mechanic, identified as R Kamalakannan, was arrested in Tirupur for allegedly stealing vehicles. According to the police, Kamalakannan would often repair vehicles, including cars and two-wheelers, and in some cases, he would fix them at the roadside before stealing them. CCTV footage helped the police track him down, and he was caught during a vehicle inspection near the Old Bus Stand. The police officer handling the case stated that Kamalakannan worked with an accomplice who is still at large.
The authorities managed to recover two cars and five two-wheelers stolen by the duo. Kamalakannan’s arrest highlights the importance of vigilance and thorough background checks, even for individuals who appear to be providing legitimate services. This incident serves as a reminder for vehicle owners to be cautious when choosing mechanics and to keep track of their vehicle’s whereabouts.
In similar cases, mechanics accused of vehicle theft have been reported in other areas. For instance, a 36-year-old mechanic was charged with stealing six vehicles and their contents in 2018, while another mechanic, Bebe Akapo, was arrested for allegedly stealing three cars. These incidents demonstrate a pattern of theft among some individuals in the mechanic profession, emphasizing the need for vehicle owners to remain alert and report any suspicious activities.
