Following a guilty plea to stalking a woman, forcing himself into her Swieqi apartment, and exhibiting behaviors with sexual connotations, a Sudanese man has been sentenced to one year in prison.

Last month under arrest, Shaheen Mohamed Ali Abdurahman Ajeli Nur, who lives in Ħal Far, was arraigned. He confessed to stalking and harassing the victim, pushing her to the ground, breaking the public calm, and being improperly attired or nude in public.

The court learned the woman saw she was under pursuit while walking in Swieqi. She went back to her flat, but Nur kept following her, leaped a fence, and knocked her down as she entered.

He then stripped to his underwear. Calling for aid, the woman’s housemate stepped in. Together, they pushed him out of the house.

Later that day, St. George’s Bay’s supervisor reported a man allegedly harassing people, which prompted police intervention. Officers took Nur to the St. Julian’s police station after finding him at the scene.

Police stated he initially acted calmly, but as he was being led inside, he grabbed an officer’s leg and attempted to grab the officer’s gun. He was held down with just little effort.

Before imposing the 12-month sentence, the court took into account the severity of the crimes as well as Nur’s lack of criminal record. It also issued a three-year restraining order in favor of the victim.
