Six days after being accused of stalking, harassment, and threats against his ex-girlfriend, a 31-year-old man has been released on bail. The court has barred his name from publication.
Among the charges are assault, threats, misuse of electronic equipment, breach of both a 2023 restraining order and a current probation order, and causing the woman to fear violence.
The woman testified about their turbulent seven-year relationship during Friday’s court hearing, going into many recent events that made her scared for her life. She told of how the man would follow her, appear near her house, and make threats against her. On July 18, she claimed the man trailed her while she was driving to work, shouting “I’m going to kill you” from his car, which was one of the most terrible events. He supposedly stole her wallet from her car window, took her phone when she tried to dial for help, and later blocked her car.
Though she had received threats, the defendant later contacted her to return the wallet and even sent her cash in an effort to discourage her from reporting him. Having first visited her mother’s house, the woman—who recorded some of the incidents—filed an official complaint at the San Ä wann police station.
She testified in court in tears, “I thought he was going to murder me.”
Despite the prosecution not opposing bail—pointing to the woman’s finished evidence and the enforcement of a protection order—the court levied tight requirements. The accused was released on bail against a personal guarantee of €10,000, told to sign the bail book four times weekly, and placed under a curfew and brief supervision order.
