KM Malta Airlines has published a statement explaining how two members of its cabin staff failed drug and alcohol spot checks in April, according to rumors. According to normal safety screening protocols, the airline verified that on April 15 and 16, 2025, at Malta International Airport, 15 crew members were randomly tested. Two people initially returned ‘nonnegative’ results. Both tested negative in confirmatory examinations later on, meanwhile, and an on-site physician certified them as physically fit to fly.
The airline stressed that the first results did not reflect impairment or a safety hazard. Formally reported to the Civil Aviation Directorate at Transport Malta, the case resulted in a conclusion. The case has since been closed; KM Malta Airlines presented accepted corrective action. The explanation comes after a Newsbook report that said the two crew members were permitted to fly on April 16 between Malta, Milan, and Rome despite failing a preflight substance check. The airline reiterated its dedication to maintaining the highest safety standards and continuing random testing among operational personnel.
