Concentrating on sustainability, capacity, and quality, the government has revealed extensive changes to Gozo’s water system. Alongside ideas for a redesigned sewage treatment system and a new water polishing plant, the investment covers important improvements to the Ħondoq Reverse Osmosis Plant and Ta’ Ċenċ reservoirs.
Environment Minister Miriam Dalli and Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri visited the areas this week accompanied by Water Services Corporation (WSC) CEO Karl Cilia to emphasize developments and reveal upcoming initiatives.
Reverse Osmosis Plant at Ħondoq:
A new €2 million desalination plant will raise capacity and guarantee Gozo’s water satisfies the quality requirements of mainland Malta. Dalli remarked the change is crucial to fulfill increasing water needs generated by Gozo’s expanding economy.
Sewage Treatment Facility:
With a €25 million refurbishment, the island’s wastewater treatment system will be updated to manage growing production and satisfy more exacting environmental regulations.
Ta’ Ċenċ Reservoir Connective:
A freshly installed mechanism enhances distribution efficiency throughout the island by enabling interchangeability among reservoirs.
New Water Polishing Facility:
Advanced infrastructure to treat waste from the newly enhanced plant and yield premium recycled water for agriculture is under development.
