Abigail Cutajar has been appointed as the first CEO of Malta’s Climate Action Authority (CAA), marking a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to combat climate change. With 13 years of experience in energy efficiency, climate action, and sustainable development, Cutajar brings a wealth of expertise to the role. Her impressive background includes stints as Chief Sustainability Manager at QP Management and Head of Engineering at ProEnergy Solutions, as well as being Malta’s first LEED-accredited professional.
Cutajar’s appointment comes two months after Mario Joseph Azzopardi was announced as the chair of the CAA. The authority is tasked with coordinating Malta’s national efforts to meet climate objectives, raising awareness about climate change, and implementing vital mitigation and adaptation initiatives. A scientific council comprising experts will serve as a consultative body to the authority, ensuring informed decision-making.
As an advisor to Miriam Dalli since 2022, Cutajar has already demonstrated her commitment to climate action and policy development . Her experience as a Green Certification Consultant in Malta and abroad will undoubtedly prove valuable in driving the CAA’s mission forward.
The Environment Ministry’s statement highlighted Cutajar’s accreditation and expertise, underscoring the government’s confidence in her ability to lead the CAA effectively.
