Long-awaited roadworks on the main road in Birkirkara are finally set to begin, bringing relief to residents and commuters who have been enduring traffic congestion and deteriorating conditions for months.
Authorities confirmed that the project, which has faced repeated delays, will soon get underway with the aim of resurfacing the road, improving drainage, and upgrading pedestrian facilities. The works are considered essential due to the heavy volume of traffic that passes through Birkirkara daily, as it serves as a key route connecting several towns.
Officials acknowledged that the delay has caused frustration among locals, but said that final preparations, including tendering and planning approvals, have now been completed. They added that measures will be put in place to minimise disruption during the construction period, including phased works and temporary traffic diversions.
Once completed, the upgraded road is expected to improve safety, ease congestion, and enhance the overall commuting experience for drivers and pedestrians alike.
