ADPD, the Green Party, has vehemently criticized the proposed plans for quarry number 48 in Mqabba, citing the blatant disregard for the potential impact on local residents and the nearby primary school.¹ The party’s concerns were voiced during a press conference held in front of the Mqabba primary school, which is situated perilously close to the quarry.

According to ADPD, the plans for the quarry’s future activities demonstrate a staggering lack of consideration for the well-being of the community. The proposed ‘crushing on site’ and ‘stockpiling’ operations will not only cause environmental degradation but also pose a significant threat to the physical and mental health of the residents.² The party’s deputy chairperson, Melissa Bagley, emphasized the need for the authorities to prioritize the protection of the community and the environment.

The Mqabba quarry plans have sparked widespread concern among local residents, who are already bearing the brunt of the quarry’s operations. ADPD’s condemnation of the plans serves as a stark reminder of the need for sustainable and responsible development that prioritizes the well-being of the community and the environment.³ As the debate surrounding the quarry’s future continues to unfold, it remains to be seen whether the authorities will heed the concerns of the community and ADPD.
