Ornella Vanoni, Italy’s beloved singer and a music icon, has sadly passed away at the age of 91. She died at her home in Milan due to a cardiac arrest, leaving behind a legacy of musical innovation and a career spanning over seven decades. With her unique, velvety voice and captivating stage presence, Vanoni was revered as the “grande dame” of Italian popular music.

Born on September 22, 1934, Vanoni began her artistic journey as an actress, training at Milan’s prestigious Piccolo Teatro under Giorgio Strehler’s mentorship. She transitioned to music in the late 1950s, gaining fame with hits like “Senza Fine” and “L’appuntamento,” the latter featured in Steven Soderbergh’s 2004 film Ocean’s Twelve, introducing her music to a global audience.

Throughout her illustrious career, Vanoni released over 100 albums, selling approximately 55 million records worldwide. She collaborated with renowned artists like George Benson, Herbie Hancock, and Gino Paoli, and won numerous awards, including two Tenco Awards.
