Volkswagen has announced a large scale recall of more than three million vehicles worldwide due to a potential steering related safety risk. The German automaker said the decision was taken as a precautionary measure after identifying a possible fault that could affect steering performance and compromise driver safety under certain conditions.
According to the company, the issue stems from a component in the steering system that may wear or malfunction over time, potentially leading to a loss of steering control or unusual handling behaviour. While no major accidents have been officially linked to the defect so far, Volkswagen stated that it is acting proactively to prevent any future incidents and to ensure customer safety remains its top priority.
Owners of the affected models will be notified directly and asked to bring their vehicles to authorised service centres for inspection and necessary repairs free of charge. The recall is expected to be carried out in phases across different markets, with the company working closely with regulatory authorities to manage the process efficiently and minimise inconvenience to customers.
