Malta’s Eurovision 2026 representative Aidan has been gaining significant momentum in the lead-up to Thursday’s second semi-final in Vienna, with his entry “Bella” rising sharply across fan rankings, streaming charts, and betting forecasts. Over the past week, Aidan has emerged as one of the most-streamed acts of the entire contest, topping Aussievision’s combined Spotify and YouTube weekly chart for 4–10 May 2026 with over 4.2 million plays, well ahead of Italy’s Sal Da Vinci and Finland’s pre-contest favourite Linda Lampenius & Pete Parkkonen. The surge in digital engagement reflects growing public support for the Maltese entry and has been mirrored by bookmakers, who now list Malta at 66/1 for the overall win and as a strong contender to qualify from the second semi-final.
Much of the attention has focused on Aidan’s upgraded staging revealed during rehearsals at the Wiener Stadthalle. Performing as song number 14 on Thursday, he commands the arena from within a massive architectural structure described as the largest stage prop of the contest so far, offering a modern, glamorous interpretation of classic design that gives “Bella” striking visual depth. The presentation is further elevated by Aidan’s wardrobe: a rare archive suit designed by the late Gianni Versace, one of only 20 pieces existing worldwide, adding a layer of Italian luxury that complements the song’s romantic, cinematic tone. Eurovision commentators have noted that the performance has undergone a significant upgrade since the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, with the staging creating the effect of being drawn into a stormy romantic dream at the center of the arena.
The second semi-final line-up is widely considered competitive, featuring Australia’s Delta Goodrem with “Eclipse,” Ukraine’s Leléka, Romania’s Alexandra Căpitănescu, Denmark’s Søren Torpegaard Lund, and Bulgaria’s Dara, yet Malta has been repeatedly highlighted in rehearsal-based rankings and fan polls. YouTube channel ESC X Can included Aidan’s “Bella” in its Top 15 from the first rehearsals, while multiple community-voted Top 35 lists have placed Malta comfortably in the qualifying zone. With the televote expected to play a decisive role and diaspora support traditionally strong for Malta, Aidan’s combination of charismatic delivery, high-concept visuals, and streaming popularity has positioned him as one of the most improved acts of the season.
Whether the technical innovation and designer flair will be enough to secure Malta a place in the Grand Final on Saturday, May 16 remains to be seen, but the trajectory is clear. From mid-table outsider to a serious semi-final threat, Aidan has used the rehearsal period to build narrative and visibility, turning “Bella” into a late-breaking contender and giving Maltese fans genuine hope of reaching the final for the first time since 2021.
