Rangers in Gozo are speaking out after facing intimidating behaviour following their seizure of trapping nets used for catching birds illegally. The incident occurred after the rangers, part of the Malta Ranger Unit, reported and provided evidence of illegal trapping activities in the area. The police were alerted, and they confiscated mist nets and electronic bird callers used to lure birds. The rangers’ actions led to a conviction, with the offender fined €1200 and having their trapping license suspended for 3 years.
