Maltese Prime Minister Robert Abela has stressed the importance of a rules-based international order in maintaining global peace and security. In his address to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Abela reaffirmed Malta’s commitment to multilateralism and the protection of fundamental rights. He emphasized that the rules-based international order is essential for ensuring stability, predictability, and fairness in international relations, particularly for small, open economies like Malta.
Abela’s stance is guided by Malta’s constitutional neutrality, which opposes military aggression and unilateral action against members of the global community. He believes that global challenges require collective efforts and that the international community should work together to uphold the rules-based order. Abela has also highlighted the need for institutional reforms to strengthen the Council of Europe and promote human rights.
