The certification process for vintage vehicles in India has been put on hold following the dissolution of the committee responsible for evaluating and approving these vehicles. The committee, formed by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, was tasked with inspecting and declaring vehicles as “vintage” if they met specific criteria, including being at least 50 years old and retaining their original specifications.

The move has left many vintage car owners and enthusiasts in limbo, as they await the formation of a new committee or alternative arrangements to process their applications. The certification is crucial for owners, as it allows them to register their vehicles and enjoy certain exemptions, such as not requiring high-security registration plates.
