A Bank of Valletta client was recently duped by scammers pretending to be bank employees. The scammers used a technique called “spoofing” to make it appear as though the call was coming from the bank’s legitimate number, 2131 2020. They claimed that suspicious transactions had been noted on the client’s account, aiming to trick them into revealing sensitive financial information such as account numbers, passwords, or card details.
The Bank of Valletta has issued a warning to its customers, emphasizing that they will never ask for sensitive information over the phone, including card numbers, CVV details, or one-time passwords. If you’re unsure about the legitimacy of a call, it’s best to contact the bank directly using their official contact number.
