A growing trend of deepfake scams has been reported, where scammers are impersonating ministers and high-profile executives to deceive individuals and organizations. These sophisticated scams utilize advanced AI technology to create convincing fake audio and video content, making it increasingly difficult to distinguish between genuine and fabricated information.

In recent incidents, deepfake scams have targeted prominent figures, including politicians and business leaders. For instance, scammers have used AI voice cloning to impersonate Italy’s Defense Minister, Guido Crosetto, in a bid to deceive top business executives into transferring money for fake ransom payments. Similarly, deepfake videos impersonating public figures, such as Elon Musk and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, have been used to promote scam investments and deceive unsuspecting victims.

These scams often rely on social engineering tactics, where scammers gather personal data and use it to create highly convincing deepfakes. The goal is to manipulate individuals into divulging sensitive information, transferring money, or investing in fraudulent schemes. With the increasing sophistication of AI technology, deepfake scams are becoming more prevalent and pose a significant threat to individuals, businesses, and governments worldwide.
