A 49-year-old Tarxien man was remanded in custody on Monday for allegedly threatening to behead his ex-girlfriend during a heated argument. The incident occurred early Sunday morning when the woman mentioned a third party’s name, prompting the man to become enraged.
He allegedly threw a metal ashtray and kitchen supplies at her, then grabbed her by the hair and neck, threatening to cut off her head. The woman had previously ended their relationship and thrown him out of their home.
In court, the defendant pleaded not guilty. His lawyer, Nicholas Mifsud, requested bail, offering the defendant’s daughter as a third-party guarantor. However, InspectorAudrey Micallef objected, citing concerns about evidence tampering and the defendant’s untrustworthiness.
The court rejected bail due to the severity of the charges and potential risks to evidence, ordering the defendant to remain in custody. Magistrate Noel Bartolo presided over the case.
