Donald Trump’s sentencing in his hush money trial has been rescheduled to November 26, 2024, after the November 2024 election. The Manhattan court deemed it crucial to ensure that the trial’s proceedings are not overshadowed by the election, hence the postponement from the original date of September 18.

After being convicted in May on 34 felony counts for falsifying business records, Trump faces a potential sentence of up to four years in prison. The charges are related to allegations that he falsified records to cover up a payment made to a porn star during his 2016 campaign.

Despite Trump’s persistent denial of any wrongdoing, dismissing the case as a “witch hunt,” the court emphasized that the delay aims to maintain the impartiality of the judicial process, guarding against any influence on the election or perceptions of bias.

A ruling on the case’s legal implications is anticipated on November 12, just ahead of Trump’s rescheduled sentencing. It is worth noting that should Trump be re-elected in November, he may seek to pardon himself of federal crimes, but this option is not applicable for the hush money conviction.
