The Blood Transfusion Centre has issued an urgent call for blood donations due to critically low national reserves of O+ and A+ blood. The centre warned on Wednesday that the situation remains dire, and immediate action is necessary to replenish stocks. If reserves do not improve, hospital operations will be cancelled, putting patients’ lives at risk.

To address this shortage, eligible donors are urged to come forward. Those interested in donating can contact the centre at 2206 6201, 7930 7307, or 8007 4313 for more information. The donation centre is open daily from 8am to 6pm, including Sundays and public holidays. Additionally, blood donation sessions are held in Gozo at Xewkija Berga on alternate Sunday mornings and Tuesday afternoons.

Prospective donors are reminded to bring valid photo identification, such as an ID card, when donating. Every donation counts, and the Blood Transfusion Centre relies on the public’s support to ensure a steady supply of life-saving blood. By donating, individuals can help save lives and support the healthcare system.
