A shooting occurred at the Israeli embassy in Stockholm, Sweden, on Tuesday, but fortunately, no one was hurt. The Swedish police received reports of a loud bang near the embassy around 6 pm local time and quickly launched an investigation. According to Rebecca Landberg, press officer at Stockholm police, evidence suggests that the embassy building was hit by shots, but details are being withheld due to the ongoing investigation.

This incident is particularly concerning given the rising tensions in the Middle East. Iran recently fired missiles at Israeli territory, prompting Israel to vow retaliation. Since the Israel-Hamas war began in October 2023, there have been several incidents targeting Israeli interests in Sweden, including the discovery of a grenade on the embassy compound in February and gunshots fired outside the embassy in mid-May.

Additionally, in early June, a suspected explosive object was discovered outside the offices of Israeli military technology firm Elbit Systems in Gothenburg. The Scandinavian country’s intelligence agency, Sapo, also reported that Iran was recruiting Swedish gang members to commit violence against Israeli interests, which Iran denied.

The police are reviewing surveillance footage and gathering evidence, but no arrests have been made yet. The investigation is focused on aggravated weapons offenses, endangerment, and unlawful threats. Sweden has also seen an increase in anti-Semitic hate crimes since the war in Gaza started, adding to the concern over these incidents.
