Malta is Facing Delays at MIA after mass IT outbreaks across the globe

Major banks, media channels, and airlines are currently suffering major IT outbreaks in developing events throughout the world.

The Malta International Airport is anticipating setbacks in flights following a major IT stoppage across the globe. Flights have been stranded at Sydney airport, while United Airlines has stopped flying, and even the London Stock Exchange group’s platform is experiencing breakouts.

Berlin airport reported delays to sign-ins due to a “technical fault.”.

“The IT outage has also affected the media industry, with Sky News channel in the UK going off air and unable to broadcast live on Friday morning, according to its executive chairman.

In the US, Frontier Airlines and its subsidiary SunCountry experienced technical issues on Thursday, with Frontier citing a “major Microsoft technical outage” that temporarily disrupted its operations. SunCountry reported that a third-party vendor, which it did not name, affected its booking and check-in systems.

Meanwhile, in Australia, a technical issue related to the US-based cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike caused Microsoft laptops to malfunction, further widening the scope of the outage. 

The global IT outage has also affected numerous Australian companies and government agencies, causing laptops to malfunction and display blue-screen error messages.

MIA in Response to the Circumstance 

In response to the situation, the Malta International Airport (MIA) spokesperson assured that they are working hard to minimize disruptions.

The outage has impacted a wide range of industries, including

Airlines, telecom firms, banks, and servers.

The cause of the outage is believed to be a software update released by CrowdStrike earlier this week.

Outages occurred in the US and New Zealand before the Australia-wide shutdown, affecting Qantas flight check-ins. TV channels ABC, SBS, and Sky (computer systems crashed, interrupting programming).

Microsoft reported service issues starting Thursday evening and is taking “mitigation actions” and 

Investigating cloud service issues in the US and addressing issues with multiple apps and services

In the UK, Govia Thameslink Railway warned passengers of disruptions due to “widespread IT issues” across its network, including Southern, Thameslink, Gatwick Express, and Great Northern.

The company posted on social media: “We’re experiencing IT issues, affecting driver diagrams and potentially leading to short-notice cancellations, mainly on Thames

link and Great Northern networks.”
