To commemorate the seventh anniversary of Daphne Caruana Galizia’s death, NGOs Repubblika and Occupy Justice have organised a series of events. Repubblika will launch its “Defending Integrity” Anti-Corruption Strategy and Manifesto, while a new documentary, “Untangling the Mafia State,” will also premiere.
The events culminated on October 16 with a Silent Gathering in Bidnija, where Caruana Galizia was assassinated, followed by an evening demonstration in Valletta. The demonstration will begin near Parliament and conclude with a vigil at Great Siege Square, featuring speeches by prominent French journalist Françoise Laborde and Italian businessman Tiberio Bentivoglio, who survived an assassination attempt.
Repubblika President Vicki Ann Cremona emphasized that justice remains elusive for Caruana Galizia and Malta, stressing the need to persist in demanding justice. Occupyjustice’s Louiselle Vassallo echoed this sentiment, stating, “Justice is everyone’s duty.” The organizers urge public participation and support through donations via a crowdfunding site.
